Euro Area at 5.2 BB Euro surplus Trade Balance

 Via Eurostat

The first estimate for the euro area1 (EA16) trade balance with the rest of the world in October 2010 gave a 5.2 BB euro surplus, compared with 4.8 BB in October 2009. The September 2010 balance was 2.6 BB Euro, compared with 1.4 BB Euro in September 2009.

To put this in context, the 5.2 BB Euros is equivalent to roughly 6.8 BB USD.  The US trade deficit is 38.7 BB dollars as of October 2010, so Europe's surplus of 6.8 BB dollars is not huge.

This is not unexpected.  China has a surplus.  Japan has a surplus.  Europe has a surplus. US has a deficit.
