Winter of Discontent: Greece leftists attack austerity with stones and firebombs

This is why Greece austerity will fail, where Ireland's austerity will succeed.  Greece is a country in which the unions are violent and Soviet-esque.

I suspected that this summer would be the summer of discontent, and it largely was, although demonstrations in France and Spain have been relatively peaceful.

This is a protest banner against the government by the left leaning unions.  Notice the Soviet hammer and sickle.  This was taken in May, but it is emblematic of the type of people that will be fighting the austerity in Greece.  This is why the austerity measures will have a much harder time succeeding in Greece than Ireland.
