Job losses slowly inch downward, as job market shows signs of improving

Bit by bit, report by report, the jobs scene is improving. Jobless claims come in at 382K vs 392K last week. The four-week average of 389,500 is down more than 5K from a month ago.

Continuing claims edged lower in the March 26 week, to a four-week average of 3.746 million with the month-ago comparison showing a 100,000 decline. Unadjusted data show 8.52 million claiming benefits during the March 19 week, down nearly 250,000 from the prior week.  Via DOL:

In the week ending April 2, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 382,000, a decrease of 10,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 392,000. The 4-week moving average was 389,500, a decrease of 5,750 from the previous week's revised average of 395,250.
